Canada Place

VancouverHotels

Vancouver hotels don’t come much glossier, The Pan Pacific Hotel Vancouver is located at the Waterfront of downtown Vancouver. It is part of Canada Place, which consists of the Hotel, Convention Center, main terminal for all Cruise Liners coming in and out of Vancouver (Alaska Cruise etc) and therefore actually able to do that title justice.

The building itself is built to look like a ship, with fabric roofs made to look like sails which very strongly reminds me of the Opera house in Sydney as it also is a remarkable, unique building of interesting design (the roof, mostly). Located directly on the waterfront and near the square and recent convention center, which was added for the Winter Olympic games and is also where the Main Torch is located, this is a perfect landmark location to navigate to/from when exploring Vancouver.

The view overlooks West and North Vancouver on the opposite side and the Lions Gate bridge on the left hand side. Because the sea port is also located in that area it is common to observe water planes flying in and out of the area, usually on their way to places like Victoria, Whistler etc. The Pan Pacific Hotel company currently manages hotels in about 11 countries of the Pacific Rim region. Each of them share common architectural characteristics of being over 30 stories in height and have balconies of which the layout resembles one of the towers Pan Pacific Auditorium.

As a child we often would come here on Sunday for a late breakfast, where we then would play near the fountain located in the foyer, which is made to look like a map. The foyer leads to a terrace, where the restaurant and bar is expanded onto when the weather is nice and offers the amazing view of North and West-Vancouver, as previously described. The rooms are wonderful, overlooking the same view which is worth the stay alone and equipped with stylish furniture and anything you could think of, including a TV in the bathroom, to allow for a nice, entertaining bath. Something that is common in the suites and upgraded rooms of the luxurious Hotels of North America.

This Hotel, as part of Canada Place, actually offers anything you could ever think of, a string of gift shops (including jewellery, antiques and a souvenir shop just to name a few) tucked away next to the reception area, as part of Canada Place it also connects directly to the Waterfront Center, which is located next to the Fairmont Hotel just across the street, a shopping center with more shops and a food court which can be accessed via an underground hall, located underneath the street which is located between the two hotels. This hall is decorated with pictures of Vancouver throughout the years and is interesting to have a look at, as it dates back to the early days of Vancouver. Canada Place is also located right next to Historic Gastown and also the Waterfront Station, from which the Sky Train, West coast express and Sea Bus can be caught.
