Villa Wellspacher Semmering, Austria

I remember clearly the things that made this place so magical in the winter to me as a child. The way the air was always so cold and would nip at your nose, I loved how the air had this bite to it that would always wake me up in the early mornings as I went to school. Each breath that escaped your mouth would be transformed into a mist, each step was accompanied with the cracking sound of the snow breaking beneath each step. The flakes were larger than cornflakes (yes, the cereal) as they fell and the blanket of snow here was always so white and the way it lay across the surrounding area made everything appear so clean and silent. I remember the sound of the train passing through the mountain in the distance and the clearest nights I had ever seen in my life. The stars here always have been so bright that each constellation could clearly be observed and the location of the great dipper would reveal what time of year it was.

Villa Wellspacher is quietly located in the Schneebergblick Siedlung (Snow Mountain View Settlement/Neighbourhood) on Semmering, the nearest ski resort to Vienna (90km). The property was bought by a Factory owner in Schottwien named Wellspacher, on which he had the house erected in the late 1800s. It was constructed in the famous Villa Architecture of those days by the same architect which designed the chapel located on the high street on Semmering, which could easily be observed by the similar design of the roof. The house can be read up on in the book “Villenarchitektur am Semmering”, which was written by Günther Buchinger and published in 2006 and a painting of it can be found in the Alte Leopoldsapotheke located on Plankengasse near the Dorotheum (Auction house est. 1707) in Vienna. Formerly known as the Vecaj Villa (pronounced ve-chai), a name that it had acquired during the years it was operated and run as a Healing water institution in the early 1900s by a Hungarian Doctor of that name, the house was completely reconstructed in 2009 and reopened its doors as Villa Wellspacher, a private luxury Apartment accommodation provider in December 2011.

The beauty of this accommodation is its private nature, where you will have the luxury of your own private space, ideal for families or a couple of friends/couples traveling together. This is the result of the physical nature of the Apartments, where each one is located on a floor of its own.

Villa Wellspacher offers 2 luxury apartments, Apartment Schneebergblick and Apartment Sonnwendstein, named after the mountains they overlook. Each one consists of 2 bedrooms, a sitting area/lounge, bathrooms and fully equipped kitchen.  The Apartment Schneebergblick (Snow Mountain View) is located on the first floor and features an amazing panoramic view of the area. It can be extended to a 5 Bedroom Apartment by use of 3 additional Bedrooms and 1 additional Bathroom. Apartment Sonnwendstein overlooks the Sonnwendstein mountain and being located on the ground floor of the original building, features high ceilings and is located just off the reception/lobby, radiating luxury and elegance. There is a shared terrace and large garden to enjoy and equipment can be stored on-site. The reception/lobby area is especially beautiful at Christmas time, when it is decorated with a large tree that reaches and compliments the high ceilings of the room. That and the white beds of snow visible from the large windows make it an amazing ambiance to enjoy.

Both Apartments are fully equipped with washer, dryer, dishwasher in the kitchen (because nobody likes to do dishes), flat screen TVs with built-in DVD player and individual Satellite receivers. For you shower lovers we have power showers with built-in radio and overhead lights to give you that extra pleasure while freshening up and free hi-speed internet is available throughout the property by use of Wi-Fi or cables free of charge.
