This weekend we decided to do something a little different and took our bikes from Glasgow to Falkirk. The route actually can be continued all the way down to Edinburgh (another ~37-ish miles), but for someone who doesn’t normally practise sport (moi), believe you me, the 32 miles were quite enough. It was a nice day trip, the route is kind of romantic and charming and follows the canal all the way down. Since it was autumn and we were lucky enough to have nice whether you can imagine that the colours were truly amazing, red, orange, yellow everywhere. The water of the canal was calm and the reflection sharp as that of a mirror, this image plus the occasional parked boat made the entire scene appear just so peaceful. Another remarkable thing I noticed were the various different smells of nature, the most remarkable the occasional scent of what can only be described as a kind of liquorice type of smell. The route also gives you the opportunity to visit some other real scottish little towns, as you will pass places such as Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch town center and Kilsyth. Once in Falkirk, you will notice their amazing and impressive architecture of the Falkirk wheel. It is a rotating boat lift that connects the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal (difference of 24 metres) and the only one of this kind in the world. If you enjoy cycling, are a kind of sporty person and would like to do something peaceful, then I definitely recommend this. A bit far for myself personally (I would do it again but would be satisfied with half the distance and then continue the same path back to Glasgow).
