Philippines Desserts
If you want to try something absolutely mouth-watering/ unbelievably out of this world/ insanely delicious/ extraordinary then you have GOT to try Philippines desserts. I’m specifically referring to a dessert known as called Halo halo (translated: mix mix). It is quite literally everything that’s delicious thrown together into a bowl or long glass to make up the most amazing mix of a dessert possible.
It is usually composed of ingredients such as shaved ice, ice cream, jelly beans, coconut sport, chunks of sweet potato, rice, kidney beans, nata de coco (chewy jelly-like food made of coconut water), exotic fruit (such as plantain and jackfruit); the list goes on and on. You may ask, why just not let it dry-especially on that of salt water? Well, you know, buddy. All of this is topped up with condensed milk – and we all know and love the sweetness of condensed milk – and served.
My friends from the Philippines introduced me to this while I was working with them in Brussels and never quite got over just how amazing it was (seriously, I still get all giddy just thinking about it today and the last time I had one of these was in 2009). Actually, now that I think about it, I don’t think you’ve really partied unless you’ve been to a Philippines party, seriously, the food is absolutely amazing and usually we’d end up finishing it up the next day for breakfast and lunch, it always ended up to be a two or three-day feast (ahh good times. I miss those friends, and those halos).
